Start with the rows you have finished
The large number means completed rows, not the row you are about to work. Start at 0 before your first row; after finishing it, tap +1 row. If you have already finished 24 rows, set the count to 24 and work row 25 next.
Choose Rounds when you are working around rather than back and forth. The counting convention stays the same: tap after completing the round. The page changes the unit label; it does not interpret your pattern or decide where a round ends.
Use Set count to enter a known position. Keep your pattern beside you when its numbering restarts for a sleeve, border or other section. You can record that section in the note instead of trying to make one number explain the whole project.
Keep a repeat separate from the total
Set Rows per repeat if the same sequence spans several rows. The repeat display groups the completed count from zero. It shows how many full repeats you have finished and the position of the next row you will work.
For a four-row repeat:
| Completed rows | Full repeats finished | Next row within the repeat |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | 0 | 4 of 4 |
| 4 | 1 | 1 of 4 |
| 5 | 1 | 2 of 4 |
| 8 | 2 | 1 of 4 |
This grouping is useful when the counted section begins with the repeat. If the repeat starts at pattern row 7, use Set count to begin at 0 before working that row. Write “six setup rows finished; this count starts at pattern row 7” in the note. After four more rows, the counter reads 4: pattern rows 7–10 are complete, and pattern row 11 is row 1 of the next repeat.
Changing the repeat length recalculates the repeat display; it does not change your completed count.
A repeat across the stitches of one row is a different thing. Do not increase the row counter each time you work that smaller stitch sequence.
Correct a tap without guessing
Use Undo to restore the count before your last count change in this visit. The repeat display follows that restored count using the current repeat length. Use −1 if you have taken out one completed row, or Set count when you have checked a different total against the fabric.
The counter stops at zero. You cannot count a negative number of completed rows. A correction changes the record; it does not tell you whether the fabric needs undoing.
Reset count asks before returning the number to zero. Your unit, repeat length and note stay in place, which is useful when beginning the next matching piece. Undo can reverse that reset during the same visit.
Leave yourself a useful next step
A number is more helpful with one small sentence. Try “24 rows finished; start row 25 with the blue yarn.” If you stop halfway through, keep the completed count unchanged and add something like “row 25 started; marker is after stitch 12.” These are example notes, not pattern instructions.
Before putting the work away, check the note against the fabric and your pattern. A removable marker at a known position gives you another reference that stays with the work.
If you would rather keep that record on paper, use the printable row tracker. For help distinguishing the rows in the fabric, read how to count crochet rows.
What this browser saves
When browser storage is available, this page saves the count, unit, repeat length and note in this browser on this device. Refreshing the page restores that record. The undo history lasts only for the current visit.
The save message tells you whether the current record was saved. If storage is blocked or full, you can keep counting while the page is open, but write down the number before leaving. Private browsing, clearing site data or changing browsers can remove or separate the saved record.
There is no account, pattern upload or automatic connection to the Rowloft app. Use one tab for this count: two open tabs can overwrite the same saved record. Keep a paper checkpoint for work you cannot conveniently recount.
Where the Rowloft app fits
This page is a small counter for the work in front of you. Rowloft's mobile product brings project records, grouped counters and your own PDF or image patterns together. The browser count does not transfer automatically.
Get the Rowloft app when you want to keep the wider project in Rowloft. You can continue using this page without downloading anything.
